PROJECT BASICS
Fireweed Court is a $1.3 million development that provides 12 units
of rental housing to households earning less than 50% of the
Area Median Income. It was completed in Spring 1998.
INNOVATIONS
Fireweed Court is a community of townhouses built particularly to
serve single parents. Central to the townhouses is a woonerf,
or a pedestrian walkway and play area which the kitchen windows
of the units face so that parents may watch their children playing
outside. homeWORD won a prestigious “Maxwell Award of Excellence” from
the national Fannie Mae Foundation for Fireweed Court’s
innovative planning and design. Fireweed Court also received
a first place MetLife 2004 Award for Excellence in Affordable
Housing for Property and Asset Management.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES

density, infill development designed to reduce the amount of land
needed per unit while fitting into the neighborhood context

pick-up which encourages residents to participate in recycling
NEIGHBORHOOD
Fireweed Court is located along Russell Street in the Historic
Southside neighborhood of Missoula. This central location is
currently an urban renewal district and within walking distance
to the river system by trails.
