PROJECT BASICS
The Gold Dust is a $1.8 million development that provides 18 units
of housing to households earning 50% of the Area Median Income.
The development consists of a total of four buildings - the central
living space, two separate living units, and a laundry room and
resident workshop facility. The Gold Dust was completed in February
2003.
INNOVATIONS
The Gold Dust is complete with rooftop gardens for the residents,
a 1,000 square-foot community room available for residents and
the surrounding community, and home-based business space within
each unit . The Gold Dust budget included 1% funding for public
art and two local artists were chosen by a jury to create installations
for the development. Volunteers from the Northside neighborhood
participated in a Community Build to help frame the workshop/laundry
facility and celebrate great affordable housing. homeWORD also
reduced the parking to one space per unit, and reserved three
apartments for residents without cars.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES

of the power needs of the residents

concrete, durable metal siding, sensors on light fixtures,
100% recycled carpets and padding, and stained wheatboard cabinetry

NEIGHBORHOOD
The Gold Dust is located in the Historic and predominantly working
class Northside neighborhood of Missoula. The Gold Dust is
nestled into a row of historic buildings, which currently serve
as office space. Less than one block from the Gold Dust is
a pedestrian bridge that crosses a railroad, connecting the
Northside to downtown and all of its services.
