A couple months ago some young, inspired, men and women came through Missoula and filmed and interviewed Homeword for their Bus 52 project. When asked why they decided to retro fit an old school bus and drive it across the country, gathering and filming stories along the way, their answer was simple: "There is plenty of bad news in the world. We wanted to highlight and focus on some good news stories."

What is your definition of affordable housing?

On our outreach tour of Fireweed Court yesterday, a participant asked, "what is your definition of affordable housing?". With a pause, I looked to the expert in the field.  "Well..." Andrea said, "you can find many interpretations, but HUD defines it as housing that is affordable and financial attainable to those earning 80% of the area median income or below".  HUD goes on to further define affordable as,  " housing for which the occupant(s) is/are paying no more than 30 percent of his or her income for gross housing costs, including utilities."  Well, what does that look like?
