Celebration to mark milestone in Kalispell’s Housing Future

Kalispell Homeword and GMD Development invite the community to celebrate Junegrass Place, a vibrant new rental community, on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. The event will take place at 1081 North Meridian Road, Building C, in Kalispell and will feature a short program starting at 3:30 p.m., with the celebration including property tours and refreshments.

The event marks one year since residents first moved into Junegrass Place, a milestone that highlights the growing impact of this much-needed addition to the Flathead Valley’s housing landscape.

“There are a lot of people out there struggling who need this kind of housing,” said Susan Hale, one of the first residents at Junegrass Place. “And the need is not going away.”

Completed in 2024, Junegrass Place provides 138 households living on low to moderate incomes with safe, healthy homes. These homes offer stability in a rental market where almost half of renters are paying more than 30% of their income on housing costs, according the most recent housing report from the Northwest Montana Association of Realtors.  A decade of soaring housing prices, limited supply and growing population pushed rents to record highs, leaving many community members priced out.

“Junegrass Place illustrates our commitment to ensuring that all Montanans have access to safe, stable and affordable housing,” said Karissa Trujillo, Homeword’s executive director. “This development project demonstrates what we can achieve when local leaders, nonprofit and for-profit partners and residents come together with a shared vision to make our communities stronger.”

Junegrass Place was made possible through 4% and 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits allocated by the Montana Board of Housing and investor partner WNC. The development project also utilized tax-exempt bonds and funding from other key partners. Glacier Bank served as the construction and permanent lender, Rotherham Construction Inc. led the build and Real Estate Management Services ensures smooth day-to-day operations.
